What is Jitter?

Tatsuya: Jitter in our devices is a measurement of the variation of the propagation delay, which is a skew of the input waveform and the output waveform as viewed on the scope over a period of time.  Jitter can be random jitter or deterministic jitter, but most of the jitter is deterministic.  The deterministic jitter can be periodic, data dependent or duty cycle jitter (pulse width distortion).  The jitter referred to in the datasheet is periodic or data dependent.
