ADuM5401 connection

Dear friends

I want to use the ADuM5401 in my new project.

It is possible to connect VIC & VOD together in order to realize a standard I2C connection?

There are problems during writing data to the  inactive output?

I know that  ADUM1250 solve the problem, with its bidirectional data channels, but I need isoPower.

    Hello Marco,

    VOC and VID can be connected together without damage, but you will not be able to make that work as an I2C interface for two reasons.  1) you will also have to connect those lines together on the other side of the part, and then you have constructed a kind of memory element that will latch 0's.  2) the i2C is an open collector bus, and the totem pole outputs on the ADum5401 will not allow the bus to operate properly.

    You have two ways to proceed, you could get an ADuM1250 and an ADuM5010 and use them together, or you could use an ADuM5401 (ADuM5402?) and an I2C buffer like the P82B96 from NXP.

    If you are lucky enough to have a part with separate tx and rx lines for the data, like many POE chips have, you can use our parts along with an open collector buffer, and isolate I2C.
