ADuM3220 repeats working/quit cycle for unknown reasons.

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADuM3220

Hi tech support,

I am using ADuM3220 on a bread board as a gate driver. It's driving the gates of 6 MOSFETs (3 pairs of MOSFETs with sources tied together).  I'm switching them ON for 3.5uSEC and OFF for 200uSEC.  It's been working well continuously (for half hour)  then I shut off the system.   When I uploaded new software to try a 100uSEC OFF, the microcontroller outputs pulses as expected, but all of a sudden ADuM3220 just quits translating the input pulse to its output. Both logic supply 5V and the isolated supply of 14V are good, nothing has changed during the few minutes it took me to upload the new software.

This happened yesterday. After I spent an hour trying to build another prototype, the ADuM3220 just miraculously started to work by itself, I was baffled and did not understand what caused the part to decide to take an hour break from working.  I am writing this message because the same is happening today AGAIN, but this time with ADuM3221 that I replaced the ADuM3220 with.  Is it experiencing some sort of "fatigue" and decided to "rest" for an hour?  What could cause such symptoms. This is preventing me from being able to experiment with this part the way I expected. I really need you to help me to get to the root of the problem.

Thanks very much,

Larry
