I understand that the ADuM1250 is designed primarily for isolating I²C and SMBus communication, with support for bidirectional open-drain signaling on two lines (SDA and SCL). However, I would like to ask:

Can the ADuM1250 be repurposed for UART communication (e.g., isolating TX and RX lines) or other generic bidirectional GPIO operations (not necessarily requiring push-pull) that do not follow the I²C protocol but may have similar voltage levels?

I’ve noticed the device labels one side of the isolator as SDA and the other as SCL, even though both are bidirectional open-drain.
- Is there any electrical or functional difference between the SDA and SCL pins internally?
- Or are they just labeled for clarity/convention, and can be used interchangeably for any bidirectional open-drain signal?
I’m considering whether multiple ADuM1250s could be used to isolate several GPIO or communication lines (not necessarily I²C), and want to confirm whether that’s safe and electrically valid.
