Termination circuitry

Thread Summary

The user inquires about the termination circuit design for the ADBMS6822 when used as a non-BMS system. The final answer details the components on the Eval Board: R27/C6 and R26/C8 as filters, R28/R29 and C9 for termination, D8/D10 as TVS diodes, and R30/R32 as surge resistors. T4 (CMC) and T1 (transformer) are optional, with T1 requiring Lprimary_min >= 100uH, Lleakage_max <= 1.5uH, and a 1:1 ratio.

Hi team,
I would like to use the ADBMS6822 as a typical non-BMS system and would like to know how the termination circuit is designed, I can't find anything directly in the user guide and in the data sheet.
The Eval Board uses a BMS Transformer and the CMC is not fitted. Is there a hardware guide for this or something similar?

  • Hello,

    Here is detail information about termination circuitry in the Eval board.

    R27/C6 and R26/C8 are filters for isoSPI pins.

    R28/R29 and C9 are termination resistors and a termination capacitor, respectively.

    D8/D10 are TVS diodes for surge protection. If you don't expect any surge in your system, they are not necessary.

    R30/R32 are surge resistors. Again, you can remove them if you don't need them. If they are removed, then please use 51R for R28/R29 to match characteristic impedance.

    T4 is a CMC, and it is optional.

    T1 is a transformer for isolation.

    Here is the requirement for the transformer:

    1. Lprimary_min >= 100uH

    2. Lleakage_max <= 1.5uH

    3. Ratio = 1:1

    If you have further questions, please let me know.
