A MAX232CPE is fitted for serial comms, but we are having trouble with static killing the device.
I wish to upgrade to MAX202ECPE+
Is that a direct replacement, or do I need to make circuit changes?
Thanks

Hi Mike,
My apologies for the delayed response on this. The MAX202E can be used as a drop-in replacement for the MAX232. Please note that the charge pump capacitor values for the MAX202E are reduced from 1uF (for the MAX232) to 0.1uF (see the Pin Configuration figure on page 14 of the datasheet). Additionally, the supply current for the MAX202E is slightly higher than for the MAX232, but I was unable to see any further differences.
Thank you,
Shasta
When upgrading devices like the MAX232 to the MAX202E, it's essential to check for differences in specifications, such as lower capacitor values and slightly higher supply current. These changes may impact your design, so make sure to verify compatibility with your circuit's needs before proceeding with the update.
