Pin Configuration for sending and receiving

Category: Software
Product Number: LTM2889

I am trying to check my configuration for the LTM2889. I have it set so that the ON pin is set to 1 while S and RE are set to 0. I have a TXD line going into the LTM2889, but no RXD (using an internal loopback for now in the microcontroller).

There is no output CAN High or CAN Low signal being outputted from the LTM2889 that I can see on the oscilloscope, even though I can see the TXD line going into the LTM2889 is sending CAN messages. I do have an IXXAT USB-to-CAN on the other end of the CAN High and CAN Low lines that is not detecting any CAN messages received.

Is my configuration correct, or is there anything else I need to make sure of?

  • Hi,

Your configuration of the ON, S and nRE pins are reasonable for operation which should generate signals on CANH/CANL; however, there are plenty of other opportunities for misconfiguration that would prevent observing signals on the bus.

Are you using the eval board or your own circuit?

Is there 5V present on the isolated side (Vcc2)?  If not, are both Vcc and PVcc powered?

       Is VL powered?

Is your test data TxD waveform presenting an excessively long dominant state causing the transceiver to time out and become recessive?

Do you see the RxD output of the LTM2889 toggling with TxD?  (probably not, but...)

Does RxD toggle with bus traffic externally generated (e.g. by the IXAAT device)?

Is there a short circuit or miswiring of the CAN bus pins?
