Does MAX232A have internal protection circuits against live wire insertion and removal and ESD protection circuits?

 I have a question about MAX232A. 
 
 MAX232A seems to be recommended without resistors on the wiring, but does it have internal protection circuits against live wire insertion and removal and ESD protection circuits?

Hello, 
 Thank you for your question! The MAX232A does not feature integrated hot-plug or hot-swap protection but does have +/-500V ESD protection and +/-100mA latch-up protection on all pins (as shown in the Reliability Report found here: Microsoft Word - MAX232AESE+.doc (analog.com) ).
