Is the variation of the internal resistance of the MAX232A receiver from a minimum of 3 kΩ to a maximum of 7 kΩ?MAX23

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: MAX232A, MAX232

Hello.

I have questions about MAX232A.

Is the variation of the internal resistance of the MAX232A receiver from a minimum of 3 kΩ to a maximum of 7 kΩ?
Also, does the minimum 3kΩ to maximum 7kΩ vary from device to device?

Best regard,

  • Hello,

Yes, the MAX232A also has a 3kohm to 7kohm receiver input impedance to ground. The 3kohm to 7kohm does not vary from device to device - it is standard across all devices in this family.

    Thank you,

    Shasta

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

    I have one more question.

Do you mean that the internal termination resistance varies from 3kΩ to 7kΩ, depending on the conditions of use, rather than varying from device to device?

    Best regards.

  • Hi,

The internal termination will have some process variation (device to device) and likely has some temperature dependence. Since there are no TOCs of the receiver, I can't speak to exactly how much variation might occur but I am guessing it would not be much. It is important to note that the internal termination is guaranteed to be within the stated range (3kohm to 7kohm) for every device and over the entire supply and temperature operating ranges, so it should never fall outside of those limits under normal operating conditions.

    Thank you,

    Shasta
