MAX33040E for use in a mixed voltage CANBus

Thread Summary

The user inquired if the MAX33040E CAN transceiver, powered at 3.3V, can operate in a mixed voltage bus with transceivers powered at 5V. The final answer confirms that it is generally acceptable due to the wide common mode range and good RX sensitivity of CAN transceivers.

Hi all,

the part number MAX33040E is a CAN transceiver powered at 3.3V nom.

I would like to know if, as for other transceivers with same characteristic, this too can be used in a mixed voltage bus,

i.e. in a bus where some transceivers are powered at 3.3V and others at 5V

Thanks in advance
