ADUM6020 Output Supply Current

Hi,

I am planning to use ADUM6020-5BRIZ for Isolated CAN interface implementation. I am confused about the Output Supply Current of the  ADUM6020-5BRIZ.

In the datasheet it is stated as given below.

Parameter Symbol Min Test Conditions/Comments
Output Supply Current IISO (MAX) 50mA 4.75 V < VISO < 5.25 V
100mA 4.5 V < VISO < 5.25 V

I will use an Isolated CAN Transceiver which requires 4.75V(min )- 5.25V(max) supply voltage and at least 73mA supply current.

For ADUM6020-5BRIZ, which "Output Supply Current" value (50mA or 100mA?), I should take into account. Since  4.75V(min )- 5.25V(max) value is also in the range of 4.5 V < VISO < 5.25 V, is 100mA value valid for my case?

Thanks in advance

Best regards.

  • Hello,

the specified output current for your scenario is NOT covered by (all possible) ADUM602 you might purchase. VISO is derating for larger Iout, as can be seen in the diagram (typical) as well:

This shows a typical part where 4.75V und 73mA will be no problem. But over all tolerances of process parameters there will be parts which might go down to 4.5V at VISO when 100mA are required. Especially if your input supply VDDP is at the low (specified) end with 4.5V.

This is how you should interpret our sepcification:

If you need a minimum of 4.75V at isolated Supply: We can deliver minimum (worst case) 50mA

If you can accept a minimum of 4.5V at isolated Supply: Part will deliver minimum(worst case) 100mA.

For sure (many) typical parts will have no problem, but I have no clue how many will deliver 73mA and keep VISO above the required 4.75V.

The specification has to keep VDDP,min of 4.5V in mind as well.
