ADM3053 series problem

ADM3053 series problem
1. In the figure, can R3 be footprint in 0603?
2. In the figure, is the value of R3 related to the communication rate?
3. In the figure, R4 is the TXD pull-up resistor. What is its purpose? Why is there no pull-up on RXD in the picture.
4. In the figure, the power of R1 and R2 resistors?
5. Is there a recommended common mode voltage similar to TI ISO1050 for ADM3053?

  • Hi Derric,

If this is a new design, I would recommend the latest generation signal and power isolated CAN FD transceiver. The ADM3055E/57E has many performance upgrades to the ADM3053.

    1. In the figure, can R3 be footprint in 0603?

The package size of the RS resistor is not critical. It can certainly be 0603 if that makes sense for this design.

    2. In the figure, is the value of R3 related to the communication rate?

Slope control mode can be used for lower speed data rates. The slew rate of the signal transitions will be reduced in slope control mode to reduce emissions. See the ADM3053 datasheet for more details.

    3. In the figure, R4 is the TXD pull-up resistor. What is its purpose? Why is there no pull-up on RXD in the picture.

The ADM3053 has an integrated TXD pull-up. A pull-up on TXD is useful when the input is allowed to float. This prevents the transceiver from disturbing the bus with an unintended dominant state.

RXD is a push-pull output; there is no need for a pull-up.

    4. In the figure, the power of R1 and R2 resistors?

The Bill of Materials is provided in the evaluation board's User Guide. The power dissipation of termination resistors may need to be sized for DC faults on the bus if that is a possibility for the application.

    5. Is there a recommended common mode voltage similar to TI ISO1050 for ADM3053?

The common-mode range of the ADM3053 is +12V/7V

    Regards,

    Jason

  • Thank Jason. It is a bit difficult to buy ADM3055 at present, so I use ADM3055 temporarily. Can I recommend a TVS for ADM3053?
