ADUM6404 ISOLATOR FOR RS422 APPLICATION

Thread Summary

The user inquired about using the ADuM6404 for isolating RS422 signals. The final answer clarified that the ADuM6404 is not suitable due to its single-end I/O, and recommended using a non-isolated transceiver (ADM3067E) with an isolated RS-422 transceiver (ADM2463E) for proper isolation.

Dear sir,

I read the ADUM6404 digital isolator datasheet perfectly....For my application i want to use this IC for isolating the RS422 signals from one ground to another ground before going to RS422 line receiver.....

So i want clear clarification about this ADUM6404 is used or not for RS422 application for isolating the RX+ and RX- from one side to another side....

  • Hi Sandeep,

RS422 is a differential signal. The ADuM6404 has single-end I/O, and the levels are not compatible.

For RS-422 to RS-422 isolation (or an isolated repeater) we could use a non-isolated transceiver (ADM3067E for example) and an isolated RS-422 transceiver (ADM2463E for example)

    Regards,

    Jason
