ADM2481_ground

Dear Sir, please answer

I'd like to use RS485 (ADM2481)  at a range 200 m. Please, see attach "figure 1".

I'd like to use circuit protection diodes VD1 and VD2.

Questions: 1) do I need to connect 0V-2 and "Ground"?

2) Or I can connect as shown on the  "figure 2"  i.e. don't connect 0V-2 to "Ground" at all ?

TIA

Sincerely,

Vladimir Naumenkov

  • Hi Vladimir,

    Thanks for your query.

To be effective the bottom of anode of these devices will need to be connected to the earth of your system. During an ESD event the current will flow from the A/B pin, through the protection components to earth. It would be typical to also connect this earth to the GND2 pins 9, 10 and 15 of the ADM2481, as you have shown in Figure 1.

    Regards
