RPG2 (Profinet, EV-RPG2PNZ-U1) test problems

Hi there,

I got an EV-RPG2PNZ-U1 and got some problems during testing.

  1. I followed the instructions of RPG2 PROFINET Quickstart Guide/UG-1850. Used ni-example-app.exe to setup the EVB.
After I typed ni-example-app.exe –l ETH –n {XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}, configuration went on but several messages of "FATAL Bad Memory Block" appeared.
Somehow the EVB was set ready after the whole process.
If I enter the command with addition of "\Device\NPF_", the configuration seemed failed.
By the way, I installed the latest package of NPCap.
And I put the error message at the bottom of this thread.
  2. Besides a Siemens PLC that the guide suggests for testing the RPG2 platform, is there any other suggestion?
Like using other analysis or simulation software? E.g. PRONETA by Siemens (https://new.siemens.com/global/en/products/automation/industrial-communication/profinet/proneta.html)

  • Hi Vince,

The Fatal Bad Memory block is likely a misnomer.

If you run Wireshark on the NIC you are using while you run the ni-example-app you should see the messages for the Unified Interface going back and forth.

The documentation was written with a Siemens PLC as it is the most command vendor. If a Master abides by the Profinet specifications, then it should communicate with RPG2.

If you would like more detail, please provide me with an email point of contact and I will reach out to you with more information.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

  • Hi DET_CStelmar,

Right now I could use another help.

I am sort of done testing EV-RPG2-PNZ-U1 (because I do not have a PLC device yet) at this moment and am trying out the EtherCAT version (EV-RPG2-ECZ-U1).

While using ni-example-app.exe without adding "\Device\NPF_", the initialization seemed OK despite of the error messages.

Then I am stuck at scanning the IO device in TwinCAT application, which turned out that no devices could be found.

My email address is vincent.tsai@anstek.com.tw, and I could attach the snapshots for better explanation.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Is there any advice as to the problem depicted above?

Please let me know if further information is needed.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Vince,

This sounds like it could be a PC problem with TwinCAT.

I will reach out to you via email.

    Thanks,
