Hello

The datasheet Rev.A P.16 of ADIN1101 t provides three typicircuit MDI circuitry (Figure 13,14,15)

Could you please tell me in what cases galvanic isolation (FIgure 14) should be used instead of a capacitor?

    I think capacitors are more advantageous in terms of size and cost.

    Galvanic isolation is often a requirement for high voltage isolation, for instance, for safety reasons. It is also related to ground isolation and EMC performance. Unless there's a specific reason such as the need to isolate grounds or meet high voltage safety standards, capacitive isolation is usually sufficient.

    Our devices pass EMC tests with capacitive isolation without the need of galvanic isolation. Refer to the ADIN1101 datasheet (Table 7) for more details.

    Capacitive isolation isn't always the best cost/size choice. It provides better value in terms of size and cost in compact, low-voltage applications. However, if the application needs high voltage isolation, the capacitors must be rated accordingly, which can increase both cost and physical size compared to transformers.
