Serial over Ethernet solutions?

Category: Hardware

Does Analog Devices have Serial over Ethernet solutions for a PCB design? Basically, the aim is to convert RS232, RS422, or RS485 interfaces from legacy devices to 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet packets. I do know of many serial-to-Ethernet converters available as cables dongles or modules, but I'm interested if anyone knows of any chip/ICs that will support translation between these protocols. I'm thinking a microcontroller would be needed to provide drivers to both serial and Ethernet sides. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Jack,

So we do have something like this. We have a platform called RPG2.

The user implements what is known as the Unified Interface in their source code.

The user can then implement a protocols that will not change based on the Ethernet application in place.

The best way to learn more is to get access to the Developer Portal. Do you have a user name that you would like to use to access the Developer Portal?

Let me know what your email is and I can grant you developer portal access.

    Thank you very much.
