One has to build a digital 90 degrees phase splitter circuit giving an in-phase (LO_I) and a quadrature phase (LO_Q) square LO signals phased out 90° one to each other. Among the following 4 circuits, there is one which is not performing that role.

Question: can you localize it and tell why?

  • Circuit C fails to generate LO_I and LO_Q. Its output is dependent on the initial states of FF1 and FF2.  If Q1 and Q2 are 0/0 or 1/1, it will toggle back and forth between these two with each latching clock edge.  If Q1 and Q2 are 0/1 or 1/0, it stays in these states with each latching clock edge.
