ESD Protection for ADC of ADE7758

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADE7758

Hello, I would like to know the common practices for protecting the ADE7758 chip's ADC from ESD events. Which TVS diode is typically used, and where should it be placed—near the chip (1) or near the connector(2), before the voltage divider circuit and the burden resistor circuit?
Is there a need to provide external protection, or is internal ADE ESD protection sufficient?
If external diodes are needed, which diode is suitable? Where should both positions be placed, given that they require different clamping voltages?

  • At a peak current of 5 amps, the current is approximately 7 amps. For 7 amps, the required power is 0.88 watts, and my resistor’s power rating is 1 watt. I believe this is sufficient because we will not use the full-scale current. In the next revision, we can consider upgrading to a higher power resistor, such as a 2-watt option. Additionally, the temperature coefficient is 75 PPM.
