How do i setup the tdk current transformers with the eval ade9000 shield board?

Category: Hardware

Hi Analog Team,

I've acquired TDK CTs as per the Analog guide.

Please guide me on how to setup the CTs to the evaluation board. Would I just need to put the 3phase 4 current wires through the CT clamps while the CT do not need to be connected to the arduino zero, correct?

Looking forward to your kind reply.

Thank you very much.

  • Dave,

Hope youre doing alright. Ive ran tests using the TDK CTs recommended in the technical datasheet, we ran the power source to 80A, however because the CT ratio is 3000:1, at 80A it is barely 0.02 at the IC, so in the Arduino Source Monitor it doesnt even register it at 0.02, it just stays at 0.01. Can you please guide me on improving what I had done? Thanks in advance.

  • What burden did you use?

80/3000 = .02 which is current you need to add a burden do develope a voltage

.707/(80/3000)= 26Ohms burden this assumes ADC full-scale = 80Amps  div .707/2 for some current headroom

R1 and R2 should be 26/2   the center of the 2 resistors should be tied to gnd

you  also stated 5Amps max why are you running 80Amps?

      Hi Dave,

      The max current is 5amps.

    • Hi Dave,

Ok thats probably why I didnt get a reading. Because I just calculated the 260hms but didnt apply it to the resistors and gnd. How do I adjust the resistors and gnd to get a good reading?

And the reason we ran it at max of 80Amps was because of the max Amp value stated for the IC to ensure that it could cope with the load.

    • This is the recommended input that I shared above.

I don't understand this ."And the reason we ran it at max of 80Amps was because of the max Amp value stated for the IC to ensure that it could cope with the load."  you will need to calculate the burden resistor  based on max value, you had indicated 5Amp but tested at 80A
