ADE7868A or ADE7878A current measurenment using shunt resistor

Question

Hello, I am Alberto and I am working as a hardware engineer in a Spanish company. We want to make a device for energy metering on AC grids (one an three phase). The ADE7878A or ADE7868A looks good, they are 3-phase with neutral current measurement, but I have a doubt. 
 I would like to measure a current in a 3-phase grid using a shunt resistors, but datasheet of ADE7868A and ADE7878A sais that only could be used with current transformers or Rogowsky. 
 Why I can not use a shunt resistor? There is any way to use it?

For 3phase you need isolation between phases. CT and Rogowski's provide this isolation. If you use shunts and the shunts are referred to the same ground you will short all the phases together. ADE7978/ADE7933 was design for using shunts in a 3phase system
