ADE7880-3 phase 3 wire Delta connection

Thread Summary

The user tested a 3-phase 4-wire star connection on an ADE7880 Evaluation board and now wants to connect a 3-phase 3-wire delta connection. The expected phase-to-phase RMS voltage in delta mode is 381V (220V * sqrt(3)), and the measured values of 426, 426, and 416V in the VRMS register indicate a -0.0198% error, which is within acceptable limits.

Hello,

We have designed a board as per the ADE7880 Evaluation board & Successfully tested the 3-phase 4-wire Star connections. Now we want to connect 3-phase 3-wire delta connection.

We are giving 220v in each phase R,Y,B ,Here we connected Y phase to neutral. I want to know what will be the values of voltage in each phase .

Thanks & Regards ,

  • If you calibrate using 4 wire WYE  you will calculate a VRMS/LSB based on phase to neutral.

When you connect as a delta with phaseb tied to Neutral

VARMS register = VAB and VCRMS = VCB or phase to phase voltages.

So  VRMS will be sqrt(3) larger than the VRMS when reference to neutral.

If you calibrated at 220 wye  you should read 381V RMS phase to phase in delta mode with phase b tie to neutral.

    Hope this helps

  • Hi Dave

Thanks for your support. We were given 246,246&235v in A,B,C phase respectively .We got reading of 426,426,416v in A,B,C phases respectively as the delta mode output .

Is that output we are getting is correct.

    Thanks & Regards

  • so I f I read this correctly

With voltage measured between neutral and phase (4 wire WYE) you are getting 246,246,235 codes in the RMS register.

in Delta(3wire with phase b tied to neutral) you will get phase to phase in the RMS register.

    this would equal phase voltage * sqrt(3)  or 220 *sqrt(3) or 381VRms

SO if you take your 220V codes 246,246,235 and multiply by sqrt(3) you will expect to get 426,510,990code in the VRMS register. You measured 426,426,416 so I think you are getting the correct number.

    ((426,426,416/426,510,990)-1)*100 =-0.0198% error
