I am trying to design an energy meter for a 240V split-phase system. I would like to use 2 shunts to measure the current on each leg of the circuit so that I can find the total power consumption, however I have read that this would cause isolation issues. The reason I would like to use 2 shunts is to keep the device as compact as possible. FYI I am new to energy metering and isolation techniques with shunts.
Is there a way to isolate the shunts and use the ADE7953 chip safely for this type of system or would a different chip be required?
