ADE7953 Reset Function

Hello,
I have two questions about ADE7953.
1. When the RESET pin is set to "L" (initiate a hardware reset), registers say "with reset" in the register description in the data sheet, table 15 will change to their default value?

2. What is the upper limit of the measurable crest factor?

    1. All the registers have a default value in the register tables  that is initialized after reset not just table 15. Can you tell me the specific page this is written?

    2. The limit to crest factor depends on the sensor and voltage divider used. The ADC has a specified range. If you need headroom for a certain crest factor you need to adjust your voltage divider and shunt accordingly so the modulator won't rail.

  • HI Dave,

Regarding the Q1, I have attached the copy of specific page below.

I suppose not all the registers but only registers written "with reset" will be initialized after the hardware reset. Am I wrong?

Regarding your reply to Q2, "modulator won't rail" means ADE7953 won't work correctly?

Sorry, I can not find suitable Japanese translation of rail.

    Kazu,

Q1. This is not related to hardware or software reset. This statement indicates when this register is read the register contents are cleared and starts start from 0x00.

For example the RSTVPEAK when read you will get the Vpeak since the last time it was read. teh register will now start from 0 and start recording the largest value from | voltage waveform | .

    Q2

Exceeding the adc input range and becoming non linear. To maintain datasheet performance the analog inputs should not be exceeded, even with crest factor. The voltage divider values  should be chosen so with crest factor does not exceed the adc input. Same rules for the current channel input.

  • Hello Dave,

Thank you. I understood about "with reset" and CF.

Going back to Hardware Reset by /RESET pin, what contents will be reset?

All registers get reset to default values listed in register tables. Using POR/hardware reset or software reset.

    pg58 under checksum register

"The recommended response is to issue a hardware/software reset, which resets all ADE7953 registers, including reserved registers, to their default values. The ADE7953 should then be reconfigured with the design-specific settings."
