I initially tried to connect the board to my windows 10 computer. I downloaded the software and driver zip file. None of the included drivers will install and my computer just defaults to the USB Serial Device driver. This doesn't work with the software. I found the conversation about this from a few years ago about someone having trouble on a windows 8 machine so I dug up my old windows 7 machine and tried to install the driver. None of the supplied drivers work on that computer and it comes up as an other device with no driver found. Do you have a driver for windows 10? And will the supplied software run correctly on a windows 10 machine?
I installed the software from the same link. I verified the jumpers and connections. I connected the USB cable and CR6 and CR7 light up. I have the jumpers installed for SPI. JP31-JP34 connected between pins 2 and 3. JP24 is installed between pins 2 and 3 for USB. I connected 3.3V to P9 and I do measure 3.3 at ResetB.
I tried and uninstall and reinstall of the software. I ran setup.exe in the Installer/Volume folder. I also did a remove device from the device manager to allow the driver to install again.
The board appears as USB Serial Device COM14.
I can't get anything to happen when I select SPI and Configure COM Port.
Am I missing a step?
Could you try to install https://www.analog.com/en/products/ade7953.html#product-evaluationkit the ade7953 eval software? Run installer as admin(right click on installer run as admin) or elevated. The drivers for the usb will be installed.
This driver is basically the same but is Microsoft certified. Please see if this fixes the issue.
I installed the ADE7953 software and uninstalled the device so it could install again after the software. It somewhat seems to recognize the board but there are communication issues. I uninstalled the ADE7878 software and reinstalled it after the ADE7953 software.
I said yes and configured my comm port manually. After I configured COM14 as my port the Read/Write register window opens. I read the period register and the Version register. I figured that even though this isn’t the software for my board that I might be able to read some registers. Not sure it is really working since they all have 0x7E in them but it does switch between 8 and 16 bits. I didn’t check to see if any of the register numbers line up between the devices.
When I selected AVA_24 I got an error:

And pressing S1 on the board doesn’t do anything and I get the following message:
And if I go back to the main menu and select Read/Write registers I am able to start reading again with the result being 0x7E.
I still can’t Configure the COM port with the ADE7878 test software.
Could this be a faulty board?
Could you take a picture of you setup? I would like to see a top view of the eval board and all the jumpers.
I have the jumpers installed for SPI. JP31-JP34 connected between pins 2 and 3. JP24 is installed between pins 2 and 3 for USB. I think I recall these being the default locations.
Do you have a usb to serial 3v3 level adapter? I use an fdti 232 cable to flash. Flashing is done with the above
Is part of your response missing? Do you think I need to program flash? I use a FT232R seral breakout board from Sparkfun.
