Q:
After reformatting my hard-drive and reinstalling VisualDSP I get the error "A valid license could not be found" error, and can no longer run VisualDSP.

A:
If you reformat your hard drive or re-install Windows, the Host ID for your PC will change. The validation code for your license is tied to the Host ID of your PC and VisualDSP++ will not recognize the validation code if the Host ID of the hard disk is different, hence you will encounter "A valid license could not be found" message when trying to start VisualDSP++. In order for you to use your license with VisualDSP++ again we would suggest that you re-name your current license.dat file (we would suggest renaming to to license_old) re-enter your license number and apply a new validation code.
To recieve a new validation code you will need to re-register your details, remembering to use your new Host ID, here.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the introduction of new licensing features in VisualDSP++ 5.0, validation codes have changed. Consequently, when registering your serial number and host ID, two validation codes will be e-mailed to you. One is valid for VisualDSP++ 4.5 and earlier versions, and the other is valid for VisualDSP++ 5.0 and later versions. Please only use the validation code which is applicable to the version of tools you're using.
Detailed information on how to enter a license number and a validation code can be found in our Licensing Guide. If you have VisualDSP++ 5.0 installed you can find the Licensing Guide using the following path.
Start->All Programs->Analog Devices->VisualDSP++ 5.0->Documentation->VisualDSP++ Licensing Guide
If you receive a message about "...attempting to register more than the allowed number of times...", please request a registration history update via e-mail at: processor.tools.support@analog.com remembering to include the Serial Number(s) in question.
