ADSP-SC573 EZ-KIT and SigmaStudio for SHARC 4.5

I am trying to get SigmaStudio for SHARC 4.5 working on the ADSP-SC573 EZ-KIT and have been following the instructions in the quick start guide (C:\Analog Devices\SoftwareModules\SigmaStudioForSHARC-SH-Rel4.5.0\Docs\AE_42_SS4G_QuickStartGuide.pdf), but have got stuck.

I set up the connections (ICE 1000 and ADUSB2Z) and jumpers/switches as per section 3 and got all the software installed. I skipped generating the loader file (section 6.1.1) and instead used the loader file that comes bundled with the software in C:\Analog Devices\SoftwareModules\SigmaStudioForSHARC-SH-Rel4.5.0\Target\Examples\LDR.

I followed the instructions in section 6.1.2 for programming the flash, which worked fine. Then carried out a hard reset of the EZ-Board (unplugged the power cable and plugged it back in) as per the instructions and set the boot switch to 1.

I then began following the instructions in section 6.2.1 but when I tried to enter debug mode CCES came back with an error saying it could not connect to the processor. The error is 0x8004804b and the error description is "Failed passing JTAG loop test".

I wondered if something had gone wrong with the programming of the flash, so tried doing step 6.1.2 again, but now that also comes back with the same error.

On the EZ-Board, LEDs 22 (reset), 9, 10, 16 and 17 are all flashing at the same time. There are no other LEDs lit.

Any ideas what has gone wrong and how to sort it?

  • Hi,

The instructions in section 6.2.1 for running target application and example schematic in JTAG mode (Boot switch 0).

Section 6.1.2 after programming the flash( with SS_App_SC573.ldr) just follow this steps,

    1. Boot switch to position 1

    2. Reset board (LED 10 will glow)

    3. Open example schematic in SigmaStudio and choose prebuilt SHARC core0(IC 1 - ADSP-SC5xx Control) and  SHARC core1(IC 2 - ADSP-SC5xx Control) DXEs. By default ADSP-SC584  SHARC core DXE's selected, so this step is important.

Prebuilt DXE for SHARC core0 available in : C:\Analog Devices\SoftwareModules\SigmaStudioForSHARC-SH-Rel4.5.0\Target\Examples\Demo\ADSP-SC57x\ADSP-SC573\SS_App_Core1\Release

Prebuilt DXE for SHARC core1 available in : C:\Analog Devices\SoftwareModules\SigmaStudioForSHARC-SH-Rel4.5.0\Target\Examples\Demo\ADSP-SC57x\ADSP-SC573\SS_App_Core2\Release

    4. Click on "Clean Link compile download in SigmaStudio" (LED 12 and 13 will glow)

    5. Give audio input(J3) and take audio output (J11)

If you are programming the flash with SS_uC_App_SC573.ldr step 3 and 4 not required.

  • Thanks for your reply.

The problem I have is that when I set the boot switch to position 1 and turn on the board, LED 10 doesn't glow, I just get a lot of flashing LEDs: LED9 (PWR), LED10, LED16, LED17 and LED22 (RESET).

I have tried reprogramming the flash with the example LDR file, but it fails with an Error saying it can't connect to the processor.

It seems like it might be a hardware fault?

The only thing I have done to the board is program it once with the example LDR file (which worked fine the first time) and power it off and on again.

  • Hi,
The issue may not be harware fualt but may be with ICE-1000/2000. Make sure that you have not changed any jumper setting on the board.
Check whether ICE-1000/2000 is working fine by running Emulator loop test in debug session - configurator option, Refer CCES help for ICE-1000/2000 configurator.
If configurator loop test fine, then you can also try running the "Power_On_Self_Test_SC573_Cortex" application from CCES browse examples, to make sure the hardware have any problem.
