2008-07-17 12:41:56 some troubles with jffs2

Message: 59026
Hi,
using BF537 , 2008R1-RC8 dist and an M25P128 Flash.
when i tried to put the jffs2 on my board on the ST M25128 ( 128Mb) i got some probs, the config is as follows;
Partition1: U-Boot.
Partition2: kernel Image.
Partion3: jffs2 fs
I used the default config in the stamp.c file :
#if defined(CONFIG_MTD_M25P80) \
|| defined(CONFIG_MTD_M25P80_MODULE)
static struct mtd_partition bfin_spi_flash_partitions[] = {
{
.name = "bootloader",
.size = 0x00040000,
.offset = 0,
.mask_flags = MTD_CAP_ROM
}, {
.name = "kernel",
.size = 0xe0000,
.offset = 0x40000
}, {
.name = "file system",
.size = 0x6e0000,
.offset = 0x00120000,
}
};
I load it like this:
> bootargs=root=/dev/mtdblock2 rw rootfstype=jffs2 earlyprintk=serial,uart0,57600
> eeprom read 1000000 40000 7C0000
kernel loads with those log messages:
bootm

you need to change the '.type' field to match your part in the board resources file

Mike,
You mean that I need just to change it like this: (.type = "m25p128",) ?

Ok thank you Mike,
but what about the others errors:
mount: mounting devpts on /dev/pts failed
root:/> [17179574.152000] JFFS2 warning: (14) jffs2_do_read_inode_internal: Truncating ino #238 to 505912 bytes failed because it only had 35!
what do those mean?

if you disable the devpts filesystem in the kernel, then trying to mount it isnt going to work
i wouldnt bother looking at mtd errors until your mtd's are configured properly

Thank you Mike and sorry to be too late ,
I changed the .type to {.type = "m25p128",} but I get other problems as follow:
New changes to the bfin_spi_flash_partitions[] in order to align write/read of blocks :
static struct mtd_partition bfin_spi_flash_partitions[] = {
{
.name = "bootloader",
.size = 0x00040000,
.offset = 0,
.mask_flags = MTD_CAP_ROM
}, {
.name = "kernel",
.size = 0x100000, //0xe0000
.offset = 0x40000
}, {
.name = "file system",
.size = 0x300000, //0x6e0000
.offset = 0x00140000,
}
};
I flash them:
>mw.b 1000 0 400000
>tftp 1000 vmImage
>tftp 101000 rootfs.jffs2
>eeprom write 1000 40000 400000
and I boot :
>eeprom read 1000000 40000 400000
with bootargs : bootargs=root=/dev/mtdblock2 rw rootfstype=jffs2 earlyprintk=serial,uart0,57600
>bootm

Ok it's fixed. there was no enough space in the jffs2 partition (3MB), I changed it to (6MB) . Now it works

I'd be wary of a "solution" like this. It means you're writing to your flash on every boot.

Ian,
what do you mean by : "writing to your flash on every boot." ?

With the stock /etc/rc file, mdev writes in to /dev which is in flash. Check the discussion at the URL I pasted for all the details.

Ah ok. Sorry Mike I've not checked SVN in a while. Any plans for a 2008R2 release?

the next release will be 2008R1.5, but it'll be an update from 2008R1, not from trunk
