I have added the samba package to my uclinux-distr and the size of the image increases by around 2 MB . Initially my image size was around 5 MB and now it is around 7 MB. Is there any way i can optimize the size of the samba package so that the image is still having an optimal size- as the device cannot load the image due to the size???

remove packages you dont care about then
otherwise, please read the faq (My uImage is too large to burn in my flash):
docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/doku.php?id=faq

but this size increase is only due to the inclusion of samba. And samba is essential for what i work on. Does this mean, i have to remove things from the samba packages?? How do i find what to remove from the samba packages?? I require most of the features of samba

presumably if you want to know about samba, you can review the samba documentation ... there's man pages for every binary that samba installs
