For tests where exact frequency setting makes sense (e.g. alias, intermodulation effects), an upgraded version of tone.c can be used - see attachment (max. playback rate is also increased).

Robin, thanks for your remarks. I'm just in a learning curve in relationship with team-based sourcecode management, where -until recently - I was mostly involved with pure hardware design and non-OS-based embedded software development. Next time, I'll do a diff file...
