Hi PTG
Is there a known linux standard way to set options like: brightness, contrast, saturation, hue -- for a display device like a framebuffer based ADV7171 driver? I see the options are there for the capture device with the video4linux driver. I have not been able to find anything on the display side.
Thanks,
Hans

did you make your own fb driver ? or are you using the existing V4L driver ? V4L output devices arent typically called "framebuffer drivers" ...

We are making our own FB driver for the display device.
I referred to the video4linux only as a reference. This seems to be used as a video capture device driver. But currently I am mainly interested in the display device.

V4L is not capture only. it also supports video output and there does appear to be an ADV7170/ADV7171 driver in there already.
the framebuffer API is documented in Documentation/fb/ and linux/fb.h. but the framebuffer layer is not really designed for things outputting a PAL/NTSC signal which is why you'll find the API "limited" with these types of devices. that's the point of the V4L layer.

OK, thanks. I will take a look.
Is there are standard linux driver framework for live video capture devices similar to how fb is used for display device?
