Which emulator (ICE-1000 or ICE-2000) should I buy for developing a project using BF537 and uCOS?

I am using Visual DSP 5.1.2. We already have HPUSB-ICE, the old emulator. We are planning to buy another emulator either ICE-1000 or ICE-2000. I am aware of differences like multiple speeds in ICE-2000, etc information available in user guide. I am looking out for information that is not available in user guide.

1. How will ICE-2000 benefit me over ICE-1000 with respect to below points?

2. Which emulator will help in debugging multiple rtos tasks?

3. Is there a limit on number of supported debug points in ICE-1000 vs ICE-2000?

4. Any differences in trace capability?

5. Any other differences that I should be aware of ?

6. Will either of ICE-1000 or ICE-2000 give me better control over project than the existing ADZS-HPUSB-ICE?

7. Does ADZS-HPUSB-ICE work with Crosscore studio?

  • Hi,

We understand that you have already contacted our private support. Please continue the discussion there. We are posting the response here for others to benefit.

Please see the attached comparison table for details of the available features in our current JTAG emulator products. As you can see, the ICE-1000 is a fixed JTAG frequency at 5MHz, while the ICE-2000 supports a range of frequencies.

The ICE-2000 offers the same features as the HPUSB-ICE. However, the ICE-2000 is only supported in CCES 1.1.0 and VisualDSP++ 5.1.1, onwards.

Support for Background Telemetry is dependent on the tools you are using. BTC have not yet been implemented in CrossCore Embedded Studio, though they are on our road map. So BTC can only be used with the ICE-2000, and only then in conjunction with VisualDSP++.

Another difference is that the ICE-1000/2000 supports SWD/JTAG debugging, while the HP-USB only supports JTAG debugging.

Also the main advantage the ICE-1000/ICE-2000 have over our older emulators is that it supports all our new processors going forward. For example, the ICE-1000 and ICE-2000 are the only emulators that support the recently launched BF70x processors (as well as all previous SHARC and Blackfin processors). We will not be adding support for the BF70x to the previous generation of emulators.

Please refer the below FAQ about ICE-1000/ICE-2000

You can use ADZS-HPUSB-ICE with CCES.

We have Processors Software and Tools page provides a convenient look-up table to indicate to users what evaluation platforms, extender cards, emulators, software development tools, and middleware are available for the specific SHARC/Blackfin processors they have chosen to evaluate for their designs.
