Ez-kit lite usb driver problem

Hi

I just got a EZ-KIT LITE bf533 dsp board from my University without any cd. My problem is that I can't  get the "usb monitor" led on when i connect it to the pc. The usb driver i'm using now is found online and it looks ok in the device manager (see pic). The evo board is very old (rev 1.6 part number ADDS-BF533-EZLITE) and I am running Windows XP 32 bit.

The driver is "WmUSBEz.inf"

Am I using the wrong driver or could it be a hardware error on the usb chip on the board?

Thanks

André

  • Hi André,

From the description of your problem it sounds like you may have a hardware error on the board. What happens when you run the ICE Test utility, does this run successfully or does it fail at any point?

As it may be a hardware error can i ask you to contact private support so that we can handle your request there. Please have a look at the the

Emulator and Evaluation Hardware Troubleshooting Guide for VisualDSP++ Users - (EE-175), available here. RMA forms (described in EE-175) can be found at: https://www.analog.com/EE175_RMA_forms. Please complete and return the 'RMA_EVALUATION_HARDWARE_form' and send to private support, being sure to include a link to this thread. • Hi Colin

    Thanks for our replay

I'm a bit in doubt about the ICE test program, don't I have to have a emulator unit to run this test?

Now i'm just connected the board directly to the pc with a USB cable.

I'm currently not using the visualDsp++ but the CrossCore Embedded Studio 1.0.3 and if I run a ICE test there it stops at the first point "opening emulator interface" with a error..

I tried with another board of the same type and the same problem occurs..

Could it be the usb driver in windows xp? And if it is, where can I get another driver? At the ADI ftp server maybe?

    Thanks a lot

  • Hi Andre,

The ICE Test works on both emulator and EZ-Kits. You say that it fails at the first point "Opening emulator interface". Can you double check that the EZ-KIT is being detected when you open the ICE Test, to do this click on the square button to the right of the Type field. If detected the EZ-KIT will be listed i.e. 'BF533 USB EZ-KIT' and the Address should be '0x0'. If so click OK to go back to the ICE Test and ensure that the EZ-KIT is listed in the Type field and the Device ID is set to '0'.

If the ICE Test fails and you are still having problems can you try updating your driver. To do this right click on your EZ-KIT in the Device Manager and select properties and click on the Driver Tab. Next Click the Update Driver button and select the option 'Browse my computer for driver software'. The location of the driver is at the following location:

    C:\Analog Devices\CrossCore Embedded Studio 1.0.3\Setup\Emu_Drivers\WmUsbIce\

Let me know how you get on after updating the driver.

    Regards,

    Colin
