spdif Input

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADSP-SC589

Hello,

We are developing a high end Audio DA/AD board with the ADSP-SC589. For this we need S/PDIF Input with a rate of 192K/24bit.

We are now testing the prototypes and we face problems on all S/PDIF channels ( analog and optical ) with rates > 96K.

The S/PDIF Converter looses the lock , as seen in the S/PDIF STAT Register. It looses the lock frequently at 176K and always on 192K.

Also not even the word length is reported right at 192K.

Then we organized a ADSP-SC589-MINI board and this behaves the same on the optical input.

We just set the routing/pins in the DAI registers and the CTRL in the S/PDIF0 and read STAT to see if it is locking.

We use a professional signal source from audio-precision.

Any help would be welcome.

Thread Notes

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

We executed SPDIF playback example from the Board Support Package on the SC589 evaluation board at 192 kHz, and it is working fine. We also checked the status register and it does not indicate that the SPDIF is losing lock.

You can download and install the "ADSP-SC5xx_EZ-KIT_Lite-Rel2.0.2" BSP from the following link:
    download.analog.com/.../ADI_ADSP-SC5xx_EZ-KIT_Lite-Rel2.0.2.exe

After successful installation the "spdif_playback" example can be found in the project located at:
    <installation path>:\Analog Devices\ADSP-SC5xx_EZ-KIT_Lite-Rel2.0.2\ADSP-SC5xx_EZ-KIT\Examples\drivers\spdif

Could you please confirm if you are changing the sample rate of the input signal from the audio precision and encountering the lock loss issue? If so, are you facing the issue only during the sample rate switching process?

    Waiting for your reply.

  • Hello Santhakumari,

thank you very much for your time, we are working with a linux image here and we must get it to work with this. The clock of the spdif-receiver CLKO5 is set to 225MHz so everything should work from scratch if the routing is ok and the receiver is switched on ( otherwise the 96K would not work either) but it doesn't.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Hjalmar,

Thank you. As you are using Linux OS, can you please post your query in Linux community.
