Debug Agent Flash Programmer Quits While Searching For USB Devices on Windows 11

Category: Software
Product Number: EV-SOMCRR
Software Version: 3.0.3

I am attempting to update the DebugAgent on my EV_SOMCRR EZKIT as directed by the tools which tell me the software version on the board is out of date.

However, when I attempt to run the updater application as indicated in the help documentation, the updater fails to complete searching for USB devices and crashes out silently.
This happens in both user and administrator mode on Windows 11.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, we are unable to simulate your issue here, please try the points below and let us know the status. This will help us to assist you further:

    1. Please try to restart your PC and EV_SOMCRR EZKIT by power-up and check whether the same issue occurs?
    2. If you have access to different PC, please try on different PCs and let us know how you gets on.
    3. Please check if the same issue occurred in different CCES versions (i.e. 3.0.2 or 2.12.1)
    4. Try to uninstall and reinstall the CCES and see if it resolves the issue. Before uninstalling take a backup of the license.dat file.
License.dat file is located at C:\ProgramData\Analog Devices\CrossCore Embedded Studio

You can download CCES 3.0.3 from the below link.
    https://www.analog.com/en/resources/evaluation-hardware-and-software/embedded-development-software/software-download.html?swpart=SD_H0BBZQT

Before reinstalling, Please make sure whether you have installed any antivirus software. If so, please uninstall the antivirus software and then try again.
    5. What processor are you using?

    Waiting for your reply.

  • 1. Please try to restart your PC and EV_SOMCRR EZKIT by power-up and check whether the same issue occurs?
     - Same issue occurs

    2. If you have access to different PC, please try on different PCs and let us know how you gets on.
    - I have 2 machines, one intel, one AMD. The issue I initially reported is on the AMD machine.

    3. Please check if the same issue occurred in different CCES versions (i.e. 3.0.2 or 2.12.1)

    - Crash is with CCES 303 on AMD machine
    - Crash does occur intermittently with CCES 2.12.1 on AMD machine, but device does not appear in target list (list is empty).
    - Crash does not occur with CCES 2.11.1 in Intel machine, but the device does not appear on the device list.
    - Crash does not occur with CCES 2.12.1 in Intel machine, but the device does not appear on the device list.
    - Crash does not occur with CCES 3.0.3 on Intel machine. However, the process does fail to complete with the following information:

    4. Try to uninstall and reinstall the CCES and see if it resolves the issue. Before uninstalling take a backup of the license.dat file.
License.dat file is located at C:\ProgramData\Analog Devices\CrossCore Embedded Studio

    - Same issue occurs

You can download CCES 3.0.3 from the below link.
    https://www.analog.com/en/resources/evaluation-hardware-and-software/embedded-development-software/software-download.html?swpart=SD_H0BBZQT

Before reinstalling, Please make sure whether you have installed any antivirus software. If so, please uninstall the antivirus software and then try again.

    - I am not willing to uninstall or disable any antivirus running on my system. I expect CCES and associated tools to be secure and to work correctly with antivirus software.

    5. What processor are you using?
    - AMD 4700x on one computer, Intel 10900K on the other. The SOM on the board is the SC835.

  • Hi,

We have created a new ticket CS-522665-X0S6X3 for your query and sent the response via this ticket ID through our private support channel.

    Please continue the discussion there.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you very much! I will pursue this through the emails.

  • Hello,

Can you give the exact part # and Revision of your carrier board to make sure I am trying the exact same setup?

I thought I saw information back from our support team that you were finally able to see the device show in the DebugAgentFlashProgrammer...did it show as Atmel Bootloader at any point in time or is it always showing as SC835W USB Debug Agent if it shows in that window?

    Regards,

    Chad

  • Hi Chad, sorry I didn't get back to you on this!
I can try it out again on Monday morning with the steps your colleague gave on the email, but I have not yet seen the atmel bootloader. It seem to come up as something to do with the 835SOM.
Sadly, the board doesn't seen to have much useful information on it.
The box says batch 2124 and lot ID 45840658 but I'm not sure how useful they are to you.

  • Hello,

I can tell which carrier board this is and can try with this setup to see if I can reproduce.

    Regards,

    Chad

  • Hello,

I was able to reproduce this and surprisingly it looks related to the SOM attached. I tried the ADSP-SC598 and had no issues but the ADSP-SC835W does not work. Do you have a different SOM that you could connect and try while I try to figure out what is going on with this particular SOM? Also, there is a way to erase the firmware without using the Debug Agent Flash Programmer but I believe there is a workaround on this rev carrier board so I need to look that up as another option.

    Regards,

    Chad

  • Hello,

The procedure to do the erase via HW is as follows:

    1. While the board is powered, connect pin 1 (the pin closer to the inside of the carrier) of DA Erase to 3.3v (there is a connection point on the carrier at the corner of the SOM near the SIGMA STUDIO connector)
    2. Unplug power and plug it back in while staying connected
    3. Now remove the connection to 3.3v and cycle power again
    4. The Debug Agent Flash Programmer should now show Atmel Bootloader, try a refresh if it doesn't
    5. Check the box next to Atmel Bootloader, be sure the Firmware drop down shows EV-SOMCRR-EZKIT
    6. Select Flash
    7. This worked for me a few times in a row.

I did have one time where this process was finicky as far as doing the erase, I just repeated steps 1-3 again.

    Regards,

    Chad
