SigmaDSP YouTube Channel by DaveThib
Hello SigmaDSP and SigmaStudio community!
This discussion post will serve as an announcement of a new YouTube channel I have started to host videos about SigmaStudio and how to program the SigmaDSP products. I have just started this and I have a long list of videos I will be producing as time permits. I feel this will be a good addition to this support forum on EngineerZone. The first batch of videos that are there as I write this are for beginners but more detailed videos will be up there eventually.
Feel free to send me a PM or write in the comments suggestions for topics. If you do send me a PM make sure to also send me a friend request so I can respond.
Please subscribe and I hope this will be of value to you.

Hi David,
Great idea! A beginners' topic causing many EZ questions is the number formats in SigmaDSP. Understanding them is key to having MUXs and lookup filters work properly.

Hello Bob,
Yes, I agree that it is needed! That is one of the next videos I am working on. I have begun working on a script for it. I am working on an easy way to explain it to make it simpler to understand how it all works.

Wow! Nice.
Can't wait till something for block processing is made.
Thanks in advance!!

This channel is brilliant, Dave! Always looking forward to more videos. Keep up the great work for our community!

OK. As a hobbyist and not working with a bunch of engineers to bounce ideas off, the following is my take on things that I would find helpful each time I work on a new project with the SigmaDSPs:
- Basically a video covering each item on each TAB in the ADAU1467 Register Controls section. I take a lot of these settings for granted, and I'm sure it's the settings in here that I get wrong a lot of the time because I don't really understand what they are doing.
- likely to be the need for some separate videos covering topics as a result to item 1 above. For example, probably a whole video on the Serial_Ports, and how to set them properly for different input types such as I2C, TDM8, etc.
- A video all on clocking in the DSPs. a little theory, through to what the settings do inside the ADAU1467 and why you need to make certain settings for certain scenarios
- A video on how to use the ASRC inputs
- Transitioning from the Evaluation board to your own board implementing the ADAU1467. From a hardware and software point of view
- A video on transitioning from SigmaStudio 4.7 to SigmaStudio+
Oh I could go on, but I won't. I'll just enjoy anything you put together, Dave! Keep them coming!

Hello MDThommo81,
Thanks for the ideas. The feedback is helpful.
#1 is interesting, I guess a quick overview of what they are for? These are ultimately explained in the datasheet. So you have not memorized all 195 pages? LOL It is a good idea for a quick video and there are a few little things I could talk about that you will not find in the datasheet.
#2 is in the plans. I need to do one on TDM/I2S and these topics will include the register settings. I do have the video about the serial port data handling but that is just a basic start. This video topic is pretty much at the top of my list.
#3 This one is a little more difficult. But, I do have a set of exercises I do in my in-person trainings I have given. So I have most of this pretty much ready to make a video. Thanks for the suggestion.
#4 will be included in #3 most likely.
#5 is tough because there are infinite possibilities so what do I cover? But, I can think about this a little and figure out some little details to mention. I guess this is a good topic to enter into PCB layout issues.
#6 We are still working on the translators. When than becomes more settled then this would be a good topic. However, along the same line of your idea, a video of how to change the processor in a design that was pretty much done. Either you move to a larger DSP or to a smaller one to save costs, how to make the change without having to redo the entire project is a good trick to know.
Sorry that new videos have been a bit slow. There has been personal and work reasons keeping me busy.

Hi Dave,
For #1, yes, I understand there is the datasheet. But I think just an overview of actually making some changes to various settings on each of the tabs is good for cementing the text and graphs. Perhaps even talking to some scenarios where you may make changes from the default state, just to give a better understanding of that link between datasheet and the implementation using the software.
#5, agreed. I was just throwing it out there as an idea.
Otherwise, can't wait to see the content come through as you get time to work on it. I hope all is well at your end!
Cheers,
Mark
