Sigma Studio 3.7 under Windows 8

Windows 8 is not officially supported by SigmaStudio at this time. We have a Windows 8 machine in our office and the software team is working to update SigmaStudio for Windows 8 compatibility. We are still not sure about the estimated release date for a Windows 8 compatible version.

Currently the only way to run SigmaStudio on a Windows 8 operating system is to use a virtual machine running Windows 7 or earlier.

We will announce on the forum and the SigmaStudio download page once SigmaStudio is Windows 8 ready.

Have you actually tested this?  Do you have a recommended configuration?

Unfortunately, Windows VirtualPC is no longer a free product and we have not tested running SigmaStudio in this type of environment. We are working towards the release of a Windows 8 compatible version in the next few months. In the meantime, do you have access to any other machine that is running Windows XP or Windows 7?

Yes, but we got a new laptop, hoping to use it for more portable work, but it has Win8 and SigmaStudio just crashes immediately.  :/

Sorry that this is causing problems for you. We need to update the .NET Framework assemblies, and coordinate the software update and release with the Sharc team, so it will be a little bit of time still until Windows 8 is supported. We will make a big announcement on the forum once Windows 8 support is confirmed. In the meantime, if we can confirm any reliable workaround, we will post information here.

It works on a Windows XP guest inside VirtualBox, using the Extension Pack for USB support.

(...although the USB support in VirtualBox is super flaky and I've only gotten this to work correctly once.  )

J3627, thank you for sharing your experience. Hopefully this will help other users to run SigmaStudio in Windows 8 until it is officially supported.
