EVAL-ADAU1467Z REV.B codec not working

Category: Hardware
Product Number: EVAL-ADAU1467Z REV B, ADAU1467
Software Version: 4.7

Hi, i have 2 same* boards, one is working and other is not. Like its working but no sound input or output. In attachment simple sample project. I ordered just 2 items for pet project and seems like they are different

Boards:

codec not workingcodec working

Project

ADAU1467Z All input output enable (1).dspproj

As you can see, jumpers different, some pins weldered on one plate and not existing on other plate.

Please help me to make it working. I have low expirience with ADAU boards with codec onboard

  • Hello awelara,

    The project seems fine

When I opened your project, The MUX setting and input/output jack doesn't match up. It may seem very silly, but we have to make sure everything to be correct.

I can see in your setup that your AUX input cable is connected to 32-33 (IN1) but MUX is selected for 36-37(IN2), similarly in output side, MUX is selected for

ch 0-1(OUT1) but headphone is connected to ch 12-13 (OUT4).

So, can you please change the MUX setting according to your input/output jack?

I also recommend you add this little circuit to know if the DSP is running.

Reg the J3 soldering, I have no idea how it's missed. But that doesn't cause anything for the DSP not to run. It's used when external MCLK has to be provided. Since you are using on-board crystal, it's connected in the trace.

You don't need J3 if you are running the Eval board as is.

I can see a black square like thing at J8 in one board and at J9 in another board, Is it a jumper? You don't need any jumpers over there.

Please check these things and get back to us.

    Regards,

    Harish

  • Hi again. So i removed all the jumpers from both boards.

    Lets start from working board

    sound is here, im happy

    Now about problem, second board

As i understand DSP is not working at all ( i also tried to put jumper back how it was in the box but no effect there)

Overall its strange thing to have 2 boards. same delivery, same revision but differences in ironing and jumpers. The board bought from DigiKey.pt

I hope we can make it working. Maybe some routing and port mappings

  • Hello awelara,

Have you tried to talk nicely to it? These boards do have feelings you know!! Joy

OK, let's look at this a little more closely and look for some basic stuff....

From your screenshot I took this screenshot:

So is this the result after you link/compile/download and you click on the "Read" button?

Assuming this is the result, This tells me the program is not running.

So then asking the question of "What would stop the DSP from running". Aee if you can find a reason so check a few things...

Take a scope and look at the middle pin of J3 and see if the crystal is oscillating?

Check all of the power rails as close to the DSP as possible. The bypass cap pins are the best place to do this. See if you have DVDD, IOVDD and PVDD.

Check to see if you have CLKOUT signal on R10? It is located between J3 and the DSP.

Check the RESET pin state? This pin is connected to pin 6 of J6 is one place to find it. It is a /RESET so it should be sitting high. Now you can also see this on the inverter circuit which is driving an LED.

The LED in your picture seems to be off which means the reset signal is high so this should not be the problem. I am adding these details for others who might read this.

Then if all of this is good. Then it might be a soldering issue with the DSP? Check the SPI clock and data lines to see if that looks good. You can shut off the meters and then set the scope to capture the clock and data and then click on the "Read" button of the readback to capture a transfer to and see what comes back from the DSP. Is the SPI data coming back just sitting high?

See what comes up from these basic tests to see where to go from there.

You may have received a board that passed production tests but then failed early. So processing a return with DigiKey may be the answer.

    Thanks,

    Dave T

  • Oh, this is a problem. i dont have scope now, its coming.

Can i do something with multimeter?
