Considerations for own PCB with SC584

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADSP-SC584

Hello everybody

I want to design my own PCB with the SC584, because I only need a small part of the peripheral from the Eval-Board. I only need SPI1 and SPI2, CAN0 and USB0.
I have a few questions about this:

1. where can I find information on the specifications for the pin assignment? (which pin may float, which pin needs a resistor, etc.) especially for the pins i don't need.
2. I only have an Eval license for CCES so I think I can only load programs onto the SC584 using the debugger (ICE-1000). So I just take the schematic from the debugger from the Eval board. Will this work with uploading code to my own board?
3. which components do I need in any case on my design apart from the mentioned peripherals and the corresponding power supply. What about the software switches, do I also need them in any case?
4. what other considerations do I need to take into account for the schematic?

For my design I will follow the schematic of the Eval-Board exactly wherever possible.

Many thanks for your help.
Phil

  • Hi Phil,
Please find the inline response below.
    Regarding "Q1 and Q4"
    >> Please refer the "Table 27. ADSP-SC58x/ADSP-2158x Designer Quick Reference"[Page No: 58/173] in the datasheet to find pin related information for circuit board design.
Also, please ensure that the Power-Up Reset Timing[Page No : 89/173], Clock and Reset Timing [Page No : 90/173], Clock specification (Table 29. Clock Operating Conditions)[Page No : 81/173] and Operating voltage[Page No : 79/173] are met as per the ADSP-SC58x datasheet.
Please find the link for the ADSP-SC58x datasheet given below.
    Regarding "Q2 and Q3"

  • Hi Phil,

    Please find the answer below.
    Regarding "Q2"
    >>You cannot use the 180-day evaluation license that comes with the ADSP-SC584 EZ-KIT for developing code using a custom board. You must use either a common evaluation license or a full license.
If you need a 90-day evaluation license, please contact our private support at processor.tools.support@analog.com.

    Regarding "Q3"
    >>>It's not mandatory to configure any soft switches for the peripherals.
