We can only guarantee 1,000 write cycles, but this is specified as a minimum value. This value is also taken at 85°C. You may be able to increase the number of write cycles far beyond the guaranteed number of cycles.
Here are a few suggestions about how to extend the number of write cycles you can achieve from the DS28E05:
- Keep the IC at room temperature. The number of write cycles will be higher at room temperature than at hot or cold temperatures.
- Always perform a read function before a write function to avoid unnecessary writes.
- Try to minimize how frequently you perform a write. If you perform writes more frequently, this will wear out the EEPROM more quickly than spacing out writes.
- Rotate through the different storage addresses, so that one cell does not get worn out more quickly than the other cells.
These are only suggestions, and we cannot guarantee that it will improve the number of write cycles and how much it will improve them by.
