The DS28E17 evaluation software (Ver. 1.3 and earlier) scans COM Ports 0-15 for the adapter. If Windows enumerates the adapter on a COM Port outside of this range, you will need to change the COM Port number for the software to connect to the adapter. If COM0 through COM15 are already in use, you will need to free up one of those ports by switching an existing device to a different port, and then switch the adapter to that newly available port.
To switch the port number of a device, follow these steps:
- Open Device Manager as an administrator (Press the Windows key and search "Device Manager," right click "Open Device Manager," and click "Run as administrator.")
- Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) branch, right click on the device, and select Properties.
- Open the Port Settings tab and click Advanced...
- Select the new COM Port Number and click OK
