Since the Old ADSP-2181 being obsoleted, would you recommend moving to ADSP-2188N? Software port and etc is a delimiter to move to Shark and/or Blackfin.
Please advice. Thanks.

Hi,
For a new design, we do not recommend the ADSP-21xx processors as they are our legacy processors and would become obsolete soon. The current production availability for the ADSP-2188N is 5-7 years. Please consider the processors in our Blackfin and SHARC family for your application. As you have mentioned, none of these processors are code/function/pin-pin compatible with the ADSP-218x processors. We can support you to resolve any processor specific issues faced during the development phase.
Let me know if you need any further information.

Vishwanathan
Hi,
I apologize for not clarifying about the ADSP-2181 parts in my previous post. The ADSP-2181 parts are still in production and their current production availability is 5-7 years.
Best Regards,
Vishwanathan
I am not aware that the ADSP-2181 is being obsoleted. There is no indication on the Product page on www.analog.com. If it is obsolete, please point me to the corresponding information on the website (obsolescence list or similar).
Thanks Vishwanathan.
The 5-7 years that you mentioned is based on the run rate of these parts based on customer base? What assurance we could provide to customers other than the typical ADI obsolecence process with customers.
Thanks for your feedback.
Hi,
I would like to clarify we do not have any plans to obsolete the ADSP-2181. As mentioned in my previous post, the current production availability is 5-7 years. After this period, there are chances that the production availability might get extended.
The reason why we recommend our Blackfin and SHARC processors for a new design is that they have better features in terms of memory, performance, peripherals etc and would better fit the application requirements.
Best Regards,
Vishwanathan
