Fundamental design considerations

Category: Hardware
Product Number: DS2484

Hello all,

designing a "one wire network" , please help me understand the following.

Would like to have one product with "one design" that can be used either as a master or slave device, depending on the use, but with one integrated one-wire driver that can be used via the I2C.

So this is found to be useful via the DS2484, and , for example, the following chain is considered:

master: uC-> i2c -> DS2484 -> one-wire bus

slave: uC -> port with the one-wire USART setup, such as the half-duplex one-wire operation enabled in the selected uC, for reaching the one-wire bus? For example, the pin supports open-drain mode and a configurable internal pull-up, eliminating the need for external hardware.

So, in case when one master is needed the DS2484 is connected, while the slave is needed, the uC port is used, leaving the DS2484 out of the loop.

Will this fly, do I understand one-wire correctly? Or should in both directions the DS2484 be used?

Thank you in advance for any comments, clarifications, etc.

Best.
