Question about the replacement of ADSP-2181?

Product Number: ADSP-2181

Hi, I have some questions about the ADSP-2181:

We have ADSP2181-BSTZ-133 in our old design, however are told it is OBS. Just wondering the replacement for it to and life time support for the ADSP-21XX family!

Someone recommends that using Blackfin Embedded Processors and SHARC Audio Processors/SoCs to replace it.

How is the lifetime support of these two kinds of DSP processors?

Another question: SHARC is designed for Audio processing, can we use it for general instrument controlling, which need high accuracy time sequence control?

Sharc DSPs are floating point processor. The exponentiation inherent in floating-point computation assures a much larger dynamic range – the largest and smallest numbers that can be represented - which is especially important when processing extremely large data sets or data sets where the range may be unpredictable. As such, floating-point processors are ideally suited for computationally intensive applications.

Blackfin DSPs are fixed point processor. Please refer the below link for more details about floating- and fixed-point processor.
