Question: I'm interested in the Blackfin processor family and want to begin evaluating. Where should I begin?
*Note, although this FAQ is aimed at VisualDSP++ the latest version of tools is CrossCore Embedded Studio, details of which can be found in the following FAQ - CrossCore Embedded Studio – Getting Started*
Firstly, we suggest that you download the 'Getting Started with Blackfin Processors' manual from the following web page:
This manual introduces the Blackfin processor family, discusses the evaluation process, selecting the appropriate software and hardware, and presents the support options available from ADI.
You can begin using VisualDSP++, the debugging environment for ADI processors, right away by registering for, and downloading, a free 90-day Test Drive: www.analog.com/blackfin/testdrive
Note: A Test Drive license enables emulator debug sessions and simulator debug sessions only.
Once VisualDSP++ 5.0 is installed we recommend following the exercises in the 'VisualDSP++ 5.0 Getting Started Guide'. The Guide is available within VisualDSP++ HELP or from the ADI website at: www.analog.com/processors/manuals
This guide provides basic and advanced tutorials that highlight many VisualDSP++ features. By completing the step-by-step procedures, you will become familiar with the VisualDSP++ environment and learn how to use these features in your own digital signal processing (DSP) development projects.
On the Manuals page you will find all available Blackfin processor and software manuals. Under the Evaluation Kit Manuals section you will not only find manuals for all Blackfin EZ-KITs but Getting Started Guides for the ADSP-BF537 and ADSP-BF548 processors. These Getting Started Guides are intended to familiarizes users with the hardware capabilities of the evaluation system and demonstrates how to access these capabilities in the VisualDSP++ environment.
Note: An old copy (2010 version) of Getting Started Guide is attached here. Please note that there are no further updates to this document.
Should you have any further questions please visit the Blackfin Processors homepage: http://www.analog.com/blackfin
Or contact VisualDSP++ tools support online: http://www.analog.com/processors/support
thanks a lot! I'll make sure to check them out! (I'm sorry for the late response, I didn't get a notification that somebody had answered my help call!)
I have attached an old copy of the Getting Started Guide in the FAQ. I want to add a disclaimer that it is no longer maintained and the data would be that of its 2010 release date, with no updates to it.
Hope this helps. I suggest use this PDF along with the videos I mentioned above.
Will check and get back to you. In the mean time, there are are good videos here:

Hi! Does anyone have the 'Getting Started with Blackfin Processors' manual? Or is anyone able to fix the broken link please? I'm also new on programming for the BF537 and some guidance would be greatly appreciated!
I'm also new to the blackfin processor and was also looking for the broken link document. Does anyone else have it?
I've been given the responsability at work of controlling an electronic camera+lens remotely using the parts from a Surveyor SRV-1 robot (a blackfin ADSP-BF537 connected to a MatchPort for wifi conectivity). I have no idea where to start, can anybody please help me?
