It's actually 2 messages squashed into one line. It should say:

Warning - bad CRC, using default environment

In: serial

The "bad CRC" message is normal when you first install U-Boot. Run "saveenv" and it'll update the U-Boot environment variables & recalculate the CRC; then that message should go away.

if you're compiling on a 64bit system, you'll always see that error initially (the bug has been fixed in a newer u-boot version upstream) ... just do saveenv as Frank suggested

otherwise, there were some odd env settings in 2007R1 that have been fixed in 2008R1.5 that may have caused this trouble for certain boards

I have embedded env variables in LDR by defining CONFIG_ENV_IS_EMBEDDED_IN_LDR

But I still get this message: *** Warning - bad CRC, using default environment

Save makes the problem go away, but my env variables are then overwritten by default values.

I have checked SPI flash where I have my LDR image and the env variables are there also before save. Why is the CRC bad for env in the LDR?
