Hi,

while refering to  Testing U-Boot page from documentation,I  found SPI flash point under  Manual test heading.

Which refers" If there is no u-boot in the STAMP board, please program the file u-boot.hex to the SPI flash by VDSP, using the released VDSP SPI flash driver M25P64.dxe."  I am using SPI flash M25P128-VMF6P in my BF532 custom board.I am going to boot  U-boot from this flash memory.

So by considering above statement in document how can I load U-boot in the flash by using blackfin GNU toolchain?

I am student & new to this DSP & linux enviornment ,so please guide me.

Thank You...................................

Hi,

if you are able to run u-boot, you can use u-boot to program itself into flash.

There's an application note at: http://section5.ch/appnotes#adv_loaduboot

This assumes that you have a JTAG adapter. For the ICEbear JTAG adapter, there are specific flash loader tools (bfloader).

Cheers,

Kaustubh:

It depends on what chip you have. Many Blackfins now can boot from UART - and you can use this.

See:

https://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/doku.php?id=bootloaders:bootrom#availability

then, when you know what the Bootrom supports, have a look at:

https://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/doku.php?id=bootloaders:u-boot:loading

I am using Blackfin 532 DSP,so I can not boot from UART.I connected M25P128-VMF6P such that Blaackfin will boot in its Boot from serial slave EEPROM /flash mode (that is BMODE1 & BMODE0 pins are connected to Vcc ).I am using IGLOO cable for debugging. So can I load U-boot in my empty flash by using IGLOO cable & how?

Thank You....................

currently you cannot ... you can load u-boot into external memory over jtag though:

http://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/doku.php?id=bootloaders:u-boot:debugging#jtag_loading

That means I have to use parallel flash rather than SPI flash in this situation as shown in BF532 stamp design for loading U-Boot.

i dont know what you're referring to, but BF532 should boot out of SPI flash just fine ... and u-boot itself can program SPI flashes ...

My question is can I load u-boot in my empty SPI flash by using toolchain presnt on Toolchain project with the help of  IGLOO JTAG cable. If not which type of external memory  you are refering to load u-boot?

the answer is still no, you cannot currently program SPI flash with urjtag.  when i say "external memory" i mean SDRAM.

So after loading u-boot in SDRAM & booting it from there ,can I move it in SPI flash so that next time I will able to boot it from SPI flash.
