2008-08-22 03:29:20     flashing u-boot to SPI NOR Flash Failed

Hi,

    I have written u-boot into SPI-NOR-Flash. The steps I followed are given below.

bfin> loady

## Ready for binary (ymodem) download to 0x01000000 at 57600 bps...

Cm - CRC mode, 1529(SOH)/0(STX)/0(CAN) packets, 4 retries

## Total Size      = 0x0002fb64 = 195428 Bytes

bfin> eeprom write 0x1000000 0 $(filesize)

EEPROM @0x0 write: addr 01000000  off 0000  count 195428 ... ......done

After that I gave reset command. I can't see prompt after reset. I can't even load u-boot in UART mode. I can't see the default images when the boot mode is 1.

Please help me to resolve this problem.

Expecting your sooner response.

Thanks,

Maha

did you change the boot mode to the correct value ?  review your datasheet for boot mode values

Hi,

      I have reviewed and set my boot mode as 3 since I have flashed on SPI-NOR. I pressed reset button. After that It's not booting. I'm not able to load ldr file in UART mode(sw1=7) and I didn't see the default images which would be displayed when boot mode is 1.

      On the whole, there is no response in the device when I press reset button.

      Is it a problem with BOOT-ROM??

      Is  there any change of  BOOT-ROM corruption?

      Please tell me how to proceed??

Thanks,

Maha

before we can point to the next step - we need a little more information - which processor? (BF533? What platform? (STAMP/EZKit)?

Thanks

If you set the EZKit to bootmode 1 - it should to the default boot. (unless you erased it by accident).

Other than that - you would need to contact ADI to see about how to load the Power on Self Test (POST) into the flash, and run it with VDSP. Since we don't do that here - we really can't help much.

Robin,

     Thanks for your reply. I have flased Power on Self Test (POST) into the flash and I could see the default images after reset. Again I tried to load u-boot.ldr into the device using the command

bfin-uclinux-ldr -l u-boot-548-uart/u-boot.ldr /dev/ttyS0.

     Before giving this command, my sw1 position is 7(UART mode) and I pressed reset button few times as given in the document but I got the error message as

'Trying to read autobaud ... bfin-uclinux-ldr: received signal 14: timeout while sending; aborting'

    Why this is happening? What should I do to load my u-boot.ldr in UART mode?

NOTE : I have used the same serial cable which I tried with flashing to SPI-NOR.

Thanks,

Maha

Hi,

      I could copy u-boot.ldr into the device. The problem is with my serial cable. Then I downloaded u-boot.bin (for flashing into SPI-NOR) as below.

     bfin> loady

## Ready for binary (ymodem) download to 0x01000000 at 57600 bps...

Cm - CRC mode, 1529(SOH)/0(STX)/0(CAN) packets, 3 retries

## Total Size      = 0x0002fb64 = 195428 Bytes

bfin> go 0x1000000

## Starting application at 0x01000000 ...

      After executing the go command, I could see the blackfin tux image on the LCD display.

      Now I want to flash it into the SPI-NOR Flash. My device is BF-548 and platform is EZKit.

      The following output I got when I gave bdinfo command

      bfin> bdinfo

U-Boot      = U-Boot 1.1.6 (ADI-2008R1) (Aug 21 2008 - 15:27:53)

CPU         = bf548-0.0

Board       = bf548-ezkit

VCO         = 525 MHz

CCLK        = 525 MHz

SCLK        = 131 MHz

boot_params = 0x00000000

memstart    = 0x00000000

memsize     = 0x04000000

flashstart  = 0x20000000

flashsize   = 0x01000000

flashoffset = 0x00000000

ethaddr     = 00:E0:22:FE:BC:38

ip_addr     = 192.168.0.15

baudrate    = 57600 bps

      Can u plz tell me what is the command to be issued to flash the downloaded u-boot into SPI-NOR Flash.

Thanks,

Maha

we have an entire section dedicated to u-boot.  please start searching it.
