ADI or blackfin.uclinux.org

So much methods for booting the bf527-ezkit demo board, but I can not get anyone between them using four days.

the docs from ADI  "ADSP-BF527 EZ-KIT Lite®Evaluation System Manual" at Table 2-6 give me this :

<<start

SW2 Position Processor Boot Mode

0 Reserved

1 Boot from 8-bit external flash memory (default)

2 Boot from 16-bit asynchronous FIFO

3 Boot from serial SPI memory

4 Boot from SPI host device

5 Boot from serial TWI memory

6 Boot from TWI host

7 Boot from UART0 host

8 Boot from UART1 host

9 Reserved

A Boot from SDRAM

B, C, D Reserved

>>end

But the docs from ADI "ADSP-BF52x Blackfin Processor Hardware Reference (Volume 1 of 2) Preliminary" on page  15-63 give me this :

<<start

The boot mode BMODE = 0001 can also be used to instruct the boot kernel

to terminate immediately and directly execute code from the 16-bit flash

memory instead. Code execution from 8-bit flash memory is not supported.

See “Direct Code Execution” on page 15-35 for details.

>>end

What's the correct for boot mode 1?

Please give me a clear, correct, detail, practical boot medthod, I am nearly crazy!!!!!

I can not get any indeed help from the FAE in mainland China ADI agency.

Save the poor man like me.

the HRM (as it clearly states as "Preliminary") is wrong.  the BF52x does not have a bypass mode.  boot mode 1 is "boot ldr from parallel flash".

if you have any questions like this in the future, the definitive answer can always been found in the datasheets.

Message: 54189    in your first post you referred to the HRM, not the datasheet

my point about the HRM being preliminary is that it may have bugs

OK, the board should be booting if I do the tings like following :

1.burnning the image u-boot-bf527-ezkit-para-2008R1.ldr to 16bit flash M29W320EB on the the bf527-ezkit.

2.set the boot mode to 1.

is it?

Thank you , Mike and God, the board is up. Why the blackfin series processors booting method give the user such much a big change on bf527, loading ldr from external parallel 16 bit flash, but not direct excute the code from it?

the document "ADSP-BF52x Blackfin Processor Hardware Reference (Volume 1 of 2) Preliminary" told me, mode 0 load ldr from outside flash memory, mode 1 direct excute the code.

Message: 54194    actually, the HRM is correct.  if you read section 15-35 like it said, it would explain what it meant when it said direct code execution.

I mis-understood the "direct  code excution" in blackfin's terminology world. it parsing the ldr likes bootrom loading the ldr,but it is still called the "direct  code excution".

I just want to say to the document writer " I 服了U".

OK, There are many problems front of me, 3Q , Mike , thanks for you important notice.

Message: 54198    direct code execution means what you think: executing code straight out of flash.  however, the BF52x does not have a bootmode like the BF53x where the processor immediately starts executing things.  you need to make a small LDR that jumps to the flash and executes code directly.
