Hello,

I'm hoping to get some background info for samba on uClinux.

Is there any information on the 3.0.25a patches beyond what's in the svn commit logs? I see that both Blackfin & upstream uClinux (@uclinux.org) include the 3.0.25a source code; however, the patches aren't equivalent (Blackfin has a superset of patches).

The patch files in Blackfin are from 2009. Shouldn't they be pushed up to uclinux.org?

I have been doing some light testing with the 3.0.25a build over the past couple of weeks on bf518-ezbrd with 2010R1. It seems to work OK, but there are some bugs with crashing or memory failures. Have others in the past been able to tweak the code to get it production worthy? I think the 3.0 feature set will suffice for my needs, so I'm thinking about bringing the code up to the 3.0.37 release (latest) under the v3-0-stable branch. Has anyone tried this already? If so, please share your findings.

There are also some patches for samba 3.4.2 included in the blackfin distribution. The patches were committed in 2009, and the comments are "import some patches for 3.4.2". Can someone please tell me if these patches were the result of a complete port or whether it was just a snapshot from work in progress?

Any additional info on building a rock solid samba image on blackfin would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bob

you can look in samba/patches/ or the svn commit logs.  that's about all.

I was somewhat surprised to see that the blackfin and uclinux.org samba implementations are different.

In general, does the blackfin uclinux team try to push up application patches to the uclinux image that can be found on sourceforge (  sourceforge.net/projects/uclinux/files/uClinux%20Stable/)?

Perhaps it would be worthwhile to search other uclinux ports to see what other samba patches have been created.

Thanks

We had samba working on a BF537 board without any problems. Granted it was on 2009R1.1 release. we moved away from it because we really didn't like the name resolution between samba and windows & it is huge. It was getting really frustrating. FTP works just as well with a good client program.

But it was stable. We never had any problems with it when we did our testing.

Chris,  thanks for the feedback.  For me, smbd runs good for a day or so, but problems start soon after that.  I'll be digging into it.

I run nmbd as a daemon since it doesn't seem to work properly with inetd.  This crashes often.  Again, I'll be digging into it.

Mike, I see from the svn logs that the blackfin team does sync upstream with uclinux from time to time on samba.  I'm wondering why the current 25a patches are out of sync.

I hope to bring samba up to the 3.0.33 release on uclinux and bang on it then.  I'll probably post some more as I move along.   If anyone has any thoughts on this task, then please share.

Thanks

that sf project is merely a mirror.  it is not an actual development source.

as for uclinux.org, we gave up trying to get them to merge work.  it's not terribly relevant anymore.
